Menopause and skin changes

Skin Changes & Menopause

Another question from one of my gorgeous followers, Marcia:

I am going through Menopause, what Vitamins can I take/use to help with my skin changes?

Marcia, there are so many things happening with your skin when you go through Menopause but to answer your question simply I believe that consuming a plant-based diet and minimising processed foods will make a huge difference.

I also recommend that you increase your daily intake of Vitamin C as well as finding a skin care serum containing Vitamin C (please see your Skin Care Therapist for maximum results) as this will have a positive affect on  your skin:

Collagen, a protein in our skin, keeps our skin firm and makes scar tissue when our skin is injured and is constantly requiring Vitamin C. While our skin ages this vitamin is required more than ever. (It also is a great antioxidant)

Our skin cells have estrogen receptors and as estrogen declines, as it does during Menopause, there is a decrease in the production of Collagen and Elastin. The result?  Our skin becomes more wrinkled, and lax.

I also recommend increasing your Omega 3’s as we commonly see skin in this age group with inflammatory conditions also.

It is best to consult with a Nutritionist or Naturopath to gain further insight into nutrient requirements while you go through Menopause. If you have a Skin Care Therapist, I advise to ask about prescribing you with skin care products that contain the following ingredients:

Vitamin A

Vitamin C

Vitamin B3

Esssential Fatty Acids

And no harsh detergent-based products!

Thanks for your questions, I really appreciate hearing from you. Please don’t hesitate to send through any questions about your skin health or skin care queries. DCC x
